Vagia
Vagia
Some say that Vagia took its name from the word “magia” (magic) since this quiet village of Aegina enchants you from the first moment.
A small village, in a scenery of green, with its church acting as the central square of the village, Vagia takes you back in time, decades ago, when everything was simple.
Situated at the northern part of the island, 12 km from the port of Aegina, it serves as a base for quick visits to some of Aegina’s most important sights, such as the temple of Aphaia, Agios Nektarios or Paleochora.
At swimming time Vagia stands proud with its sandy beach, one of the most beautiful in all of Aegina. If, nevertheless, you need an alternative, just a stone’s throw away is the beautiful bay of Tourlos. Tourlos, in World War II, was chosen by the Germans as the most strategic point of the island.
The few taverns are more than enough to enjoy well-cooked food, fresh fish and organic salads, while if you are in the appetite for a night out, the city of Aegina, Souvala or Agia Marina are only a few kilometers away.
Vagia also inspired writer Georges Sarris to write some of her best known books (“The tight Shoes” and “The Treasure of Vagia”). Exactly as mentioned earlier… This place … has something magical! It’s up to you to discover it.
