Guided Tour to the Kapodistrian Buildings of Aegina
Aegina Town takes visitors on a journey in modern Greek history through the Kapodistrian buildings that testify to the era of Kapodistrias, the first Governor of the independent Greek state!
Let’s go back to January 11, 1828, when the Aeginians welcomed the Governor to the Diocese of Aegina. Earlier, on January 7, Kapodistrias had arrived in Nafplio with applause. However, Aegina was deemed more suitable as the first temporary capital of the Greek state. Thus, the swearing-in ceremony of Kapodistrias as the first governor of the Greek state took place on January 28, in the Metropolis of Aegina, as well as the swearing-in of the Panhellenic Council, which was the temporary anti-government committee.
Take a tour to the Kapodistrian buildings of Aegina with an experienced accredited guide, follow the footsteps of the great Greek governor, and listen to the secrets of history.
The tour of the Kapodistrian buildings will take you back to the history of past centuries. Discover the Metropolis of Aegina and admire its characteristic architecture and the wooden stall of Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias that is preserved until today opposite the Despotic Throne.

Last but not least, we will discover the Orphanage and the Governor’s House, the simple, stone, two-storey building, renovated in 1827 to accommodate the services of the government of the modern Greek state from 1828 to 1829.
