Aegina is known since antiquity for its ceramics. The quality of soil is ideal for creating this type of artefacts. The ceramic trade was one of the very reasons why Aegina experienced such a great economic boom in the post-Kapodistrias era.
Today, the island’s pottery-makers are few, but if you want to learn this craft then all you have to do is to enrol in one of its pottery workshops.
Moreover, the island is known for the local limestone from which wonderful buildings in antiquity had been created, and which has inspired artists and sculptors, most notably the internationally renowned artist Yiannis Moralis.
