People of Aegina #15 – Valentine from Scotland
Regular visitors of Aegina from Scotland! Valentine and her husband David are in love with Aegina. Read Valentine’s heartwarming thoughts about our island.

Hi, my name is Valentine, I was a lecturer in Social Work in Dundee, Scotland, my husband David is an artist and Musician.
I love Aegina because it is home away from home.
Our view from the wee beach across the road from my mother’s house is across to Agistri and beyond, it is just like cutouts, dark and flat against the sky and at dusk it is so peaceful.
Aegina means contentment to me.
Swimming, reading, going to our favourite Tavernas, going to the music sessions, walking with David.

One of our favourite beach tavernas is at Marathonas.
We usually cycle or walk out there from the edge of Aegina where my mother lives. She bought a wee house in Akti Toti Hatzi back in 1984 and since then she has stayed in Aegina for about 6 months of the year, going back and forth to Scotland. Her family and friends, including myself, come out to see her, and, from 1995, with my second husband David, I have been coming every year for about 3 weeks at a time.
My Mother has made many friends in Aegina…
…and through her we have been on lots of wonderful walks to all the amazing things that are hidden deep inside Aegina. Olive groves, a convent, old villages, so much that is unique to this island and then there is Moni. We have climbed to the top of that incredible wee island, seen the deer and the peacocks and the German outlook posts. Swum in the beautiful waters on the far side of the island .

David plays in a Cajun/Blues band in Scotland…
so we always go to a particular Bar in Aegina that has live music nights where he is invited to join in the sessions there. Elias, the owner, plays the piano and lots of amazing musicians come along for incredible nights of music. If we are lucky it happens 2 or 3 times a week! David always takes an accordion to Greece with him in the luggage hold…
Over the years we have got to know several owners of the Tavernas…
and their families on the front and it is so lovely to see them year after year and to be welcomed back with great big hugs.
My favourite drink is Retsina.
We always buy it from a stall, in a water bottle, to take back to the house.
