Dimitra Bock – The great return

People of Aegina #23 – Dimitra Bock

Dimitra was born and raised in Aegina to a Greek father and a German mother. After high school she went to study in Italy, Belgium and Germany where she studied History and also got her Master’s Degree in European Literature. She stayed in Germany for 10 years, where she met and married her husband and had two beautiful children but something was always missing.. and that was her hometown Aegina!

In 2012 she started working for a multinational company in Hamburg, because she is multilingual,  a job with good pay but lots of pressure and stress. With the coming of her first child though she started reviewing her entire life and what truly matters for her. She always wanted to live a simple life and spend time with her family. This is how yoga entered her daily life and offered a new perspective. Dimitra loves what she does so deeply that she built her yoga business online so she could take it with her and rely solely on it to provide for her family! When she teaches yoga she doesn’t give energy rather than receiving a lot.. as she told us!

Why Aegina…

While when I was little I always wanted to leave, to explore the world, as soon as I became a mother I started having these flashbacks of how beautiful my childhood was, in my neighborhood in Faros and I just wanted my children to have the same experiences and grow up close to nature and the sea!

What connects you with Aegina…

My wonderful childhood was a time filled with unforgettable moments and endless happiness. My neighborhood was a paradise, full of friends with whom we shared endless hours of play and joy! Every day was a new adventure, climbing trees and discovering on our bikes secret places that only we knew about.. and I always remember the rule “be home before the sun goes down”! As the sun set, we went back to our homes full of joy, knowing that these memories will be with us forever.. My childhood has shaped me to the person I am today and these memories follow me in difficult times and remind me of the importance of simplicity! I am grateful for everything I have experienced!

My feelings when I arrive…

I feel like I’ve come home! Every time I returned to this magical place I felt uber happy. Nothing compares to this feeling! Every summer, no matter how many my leave day were, I always came to visit! When I arrived, I realized how lucky I am to have this place to call “home.” My permanent return symbolizes my connection to my roots, my culture and my family. This is where I find the energy that guides me in life and the inspiration that makes me dream big!

I love Aegina because…

it completes me! Only when I’m here, I feel that everything is right! My connection to this island, is priceless. Every time I leave, especially in the past to travel, a piece of my heart remained here. Something was always missing when I was away from the island! My parents are also coming to live here permanently, and that means I will have my whole family by my side, feeling more complete than ever. This place is my soul, and sharing it with the people I love is a blessing beyond words.
