This small island, which has a maximum length of 5.5 km and a width of 3.5 km, seems to have been inhabited for 2,500 years. It belonged to the kingdom of the mythical Aeacus of Aegina and, as it is mentioned by Homer, Agistri was its ally in the Trojan War. The ancient name of the island is Kekryfalia which means decorated head. Today Agistri counts more than 1,000 permanent residents.
