People of Aegina #25 – Vassilis Sofianos
Since I came, I have never thought of leaving again, not even for a moment!
A few words about Vassilis..
Vassilis Sofianos was born and raised in Piraeus, but his passion led him to Aegina, where for many years he has been running the beloved kebab shop “Willy”. The story of Vassilis is a story of dedication and love for our island.
Vassilis Sofianos arrived in Aegina when he was only 40 days old. A small visit that will mark him forever. “They dragged me to leave when the summer ended,” he says with a smile!
After school and his military service, Vassilis decided to make Aegina his permanent place of residence. And so he did! He comes later and settles in Aegina, gets married and has his only daughter, Eleni, “his first and eternal love” as he says. As for his first professional step, in Kritikos””, before deciding to launch his own business and finally ending up with his true love: handmade souvlaki, creating his own souvlaki shop, “Willy,” where he stands out still with the quality of the materials he uses. All meats are handmade, carefully selected and prepared by hand fresh every day, giving a truly unique character to his souvlaki!

I completely connect with Aegina! The whole island is a paradise for me, imagine that since I came I have never thought of leaving again for a single moment! The sea and the breeze of the island offer me real peace and happiness.

Favorite places on the island, hidden treasures…
Souvala and Perdika are among my favorite places. In Souvala I spend time besides my work, doing snorkelling and also a bit of surfing (I’ve given up on them lately, the truth is haha)! I love Souvala and I’m glad to see that in recent years it’s been improving both in terms of infrastructure and in terms of visitors.
