On the coastal Kazantzakis Avenue, along the enchanting “artists’ route”, we admire the sculpture of artist Yannis Moralis in Aegina.

The sculpture “Untitled” has been placed opposite the house of his fraternal friend, also a painter, Nikos Nikolaos. In this house, Moralis spent most of his summer days on the island, in the company of all the artistic company of Aegina, which consisted of equally important personalities, such as Kapralos, Elytis, and Eggonopoulos.

The sculpture of Yannis Moralis in Aegina has been placed exactly as desired by its creator, who loved the island so much. Right on the ground, with the sea of Aegina in the background. It depicts two ships, one leaving and the other coming to and from Aegina.

The work is a donation of the artist’s close friend and collaborator, Peggy Zoumboulakis, to the Municipality of Aegina since 2016. It is a sign of the presence of the important artist, in the place he loved and presented through his work.

The painter and artist Yannis Moralis was one of the most important Greek artists of the 20th century. He loved Aegina deeply. He has stated, “I sign my works, writing first “Aegina” and then my signature and the date”.
