A mansion with centuries of history

It is impossible not to be captivated by the history and beauty of the building of the Aeginitikon Arhontikon, which has stood proudly in the city of Aegina since 1700. The building was renovated and acquired its neoclassical style in the early 1900s, becoming the residence of Mrs. Varvara Bitrou. Historical personalities passed through the Aeginitikon Arhontikon, such as the Minister of Shipping Admiral Kountouriotis, and Saint Nektarios. Last but not least, when the owner of the mansion was Mrs. Zenovia Bitrou, the Greek poet Costas Varnalis lived there for a period of two years.

In 1987, the building was completely renovated and turned into a traditional hotel by Mr. Fotis Voulgarakis. The two shaded inner courtyards on the ground floor, the rooms with traditional furniture and the ceilings painted by Milanese artists, and the impressive terrace, are just some of the special features of the Aeginitikon Arhontikon that win the hearts of visitors and guests.

A neoclassical gem in Aegina

The building of the Aeginitikon Arhontikon is admired for its characteristic neoclassical architecture, both thanks to its proportions and its openings. With red Doric exterior walls and capitals, ochre-colored columns and cornice, plaster-covered wooden balconies and black iron railings, it is an example of the neoclassical style.
