Aegina’s classic place-to-be, on the seashore, the famous Babis tavern in Aegina (Akti Toti Hatzi, Panagitsa beach, right after the church) is just 5 minutes from the port of Aegina. Since 1984, Mr. Babis and Mrs Kalliopi started offering home-made food (the moussaka and stuffed tomatoes are renowned)… and since 2003 the son Nikos and Natassa freshened up Babis restaurant’s style and menu and it is now considered to be one of the trendiest modern taverns of the island.
The outer tables enjoy the wonderful view to the beach. A romantic dinner can be combined with a quick dive into the sea. You can dive while waiting for your dish to arrive and stay to admire the not-to-miss sunset.
The menu consists mostly of Greek flavours ranging from fresh fish, seafood, shrimps, lobster spaghetti, and home-made cooked food. It is worth tasting: stuffed tomatoes, meatballs in cabbage rolls, cheese served with Aegina’s pistachio, the amazing octopus marinated in vinegar, chicken roll with light cheese pistachio, veal with spaghetti, olives and greek cheese, salmon cake, zucchini stuffed with shrimps, octopus balls, cod balls with aioli, fried oysters with mustard, lamp with pistachios and baby potatoes, linguine with fresh seafood and curry. Do not forget to ask for the peach-strawberry pavlova made by Natassa … and many fresh fish of the day… just ask them!
The warm environment, the tastes and most of all… the prices remind us of the “kitchen of our home” and “mom’s food” all in their best version.
